Rauf Raif Denktaş Mausoleum and Museum

Rauf Denktaş was a resilient leader throughout the course of his life firmly associated with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He has balanced his stiff, uncompromising discourse defending values of equal rights and representation with a calm and unassuming lifestyle similar to the island’s mellow and peaceful nature.

RRD Mausoleum and Museum proposal is deeply influenced by the life and character of Denktaş. The project creates abstract symbolism within a modest environment, one that relates human scale in governing linear emphasis. It explores spatiality of everyday daily life in a ceremonial setting and bridges artistic discourse to the political, in a pronounced architectural landscape. The project constitutes a multifaceted and consistent composition with special emphasis on urban approachability in a holistic landscape setting.
